2002 SEASSI Khmer Class Performance of “Cyclo”
November 10, 2008 by admin · 14 Comments
Every summer at the intensive language program where I teach Khmer, each language group performs a song, skit or dance for “culture night”. In 2002, the Khmer Program outdid everyone: we formed a rock group and did our own version of the 1960s Khmer psychedelic classic “Cyclo”…here it is. And yes, “Extreme Khmer” fans, that’s yours truly on lead guitar!

I would like to start a non-profit organization to help kids in Cambodia. Any idea?
November 10, 2008 by admin · 8 Comments
I want kids in the countryside to get the opportunity to learn how to read and write and explore the modern world like the rest of the kids in America. I hope to find other Khmer from different part of the world to either go back home volunteer or donate money and help people in their home town or their parents home town. With our small population I believe it very possible to get Cambodia back on track in a shorter time frame then other courtries with larger population.
Contact Brad Pitt's wife. She should be able to help you.
A good online place to learn a language?
November 10, 2008 by admin · 6 Comments
Not just any language, i want to learn Khmer (Cambodian language).
I've seen places with phrases but i want to learn it thoroughly.
Hello.
While I am no expert (yet) on Khmer language, I hope I am qualified to (at the very least) share a few tidbits of what I have gleaned over the years!
I have been searching for a decent Khmer language course (online or otherwise) for nearly as long as my husband and I have been together- 17 years! Unfortunately, the world just isn't overflowing with places to learn Khmer. That being said, you can get a pretty good start online.
To my knowledge, the best place to find decent instruction on the web is a site called SEAsite- (stands for Southeast Asian Site) and is run out of Northern Illinois University. The site has tons of information and practice exercises as well as an abundance of fun and interesting language, political, musical etc.. links.
One other site I have also found helpful is called AK-Online (Authentic Khmer Online) It is put together nicely and has lots of info for one smallish site. The links for these two resources are below. ..
Additionally, (and sadly I cannot locate the address now, ) there IS (floating around out there somewhere in cyberspace) an AMAZING free .pdf copy of Franklin Huffman's "Cambodian System fo Writing and Beginning Grammar" which is THE premier collegiate course for Khmer–It is fully printable and yields a hefty 150 page book for your studies–
Good luck in your endeavor– Khmer is such a beautiful, poetic language–
And one more thing… if you are inclined to cook, I can't help but put in a plug for my very favorite Khmer cooking site:
http://www.khmerkromrecipes.com … This beautiful site is a fantastic resource hosted by an extremely devoted woman…. The food is superb, as are the history lessons and anecdotes!
on to the links!!!

Once again- Congratulations and good luck!!

Hello friends! Recently, I’ve documented Khmer Traditional Costume and its wearing instruction. I’ve divided them into 2 DVD, (Part I & Part II). There are 15 traditional styles in part I. You can learn how to wear it at home easily. The quality in this You Tube might not be good. If you’re interested to have the complete quality DVD pls contact me. Enjoy !

Traffic in Cambodia and how it takes to fix it. Cambodia is on the road to traffic jam, in phnom penh cambodia.
Paul Report on traffic in Cambodia and how it takes us a while to get across the city of Phnom Phenh to the other side of town.
A great place to go and need improving on traffic though. Paul Milsom waits for 20mins at least for the traffic and congestion still as rife!
He just wants to go to a cambodian book store to buy book to learn to speak khmer.

Extreme Khmer Episode 5: Subtitled Version
September 28, 2008 by admin · 3 Comments
I had to subtitle an episode of Extreme Khmer this past summer for a presentation at a conference on language teaching, and this is the one I chose…so I thought I’d put it here so people who can’t speak Khmer could check it out. Don’t expect me to subtitle any more episodes, though, you gotta learn Khmer to enjoy this show, haha!
